Jameson Whiskey: Pop Up Pubs

Designer: Blonstein
Location: Iles des Embiez, France
Completion: 2012 & 2013

Each spring, Pernod Ricard stages an epic, annual one week convention that hosts over 1000 staff members with temporary venues set up by each of its companies with a brief to host, entertain and represent the brands they stand for.

For Jameson Whiskey, this means designing temporary, traditional West Cork pubs that have stood for centuries. They need, however, to be erected on an island in the Mediterranean, in less than two days, using lightweight, easily demountable materials. This means prefabricated steel trusses, cantilevering panelised facades and hidden ballast to stabilise the whole thing.

Once the week ends, the whole thing has to be dismantled and taken off the island without any permanent signs of its existence.
